SPRING WARM UP ATV RIDE - SUNDAY MAY 16TH.Hi Everyone!
Our first formal ride of the season will be an easy paced ride
leaving
Cannnifton (just north of Belleville) and we'll complete a loop
of about
130km to Madoc then Marmora to Stirling and back to Cannnifton.
This is
a very easy ride, made up mostly of old railway beds.
We plan on leaving the parking lot located at the corner of
Highway 37
and Blessington Road at 9:30am. We'll stop for lunch along the
trail.
This should put is back in Cannifton for the drive home by 4pm.
Please note, there is some road riding to get from trail to
trail, so
riders under 16 and those using side-by-sides are cautioned.
Please feel free to join us!
Dave Haney
Hi all,
Al and myself just came back from our Eastern Ontario ATV Clubs
Advisory Committee meeting which we chair. The meeting was a
huge success. Al and I hosted an 85 km. ride with ATV Club
presidents from other parts of Ontario. We also witnessed
massive repair efforts underway along the main corridors where
bridges have brand new decking, trails freshly graded and New
Information Kiosks being erected at major intersections.
The southern portion of the K&P trail from Harrowsmith to
Sharbot Lake has had the go ahead from Frontenac County to
partner with the EOTA model for development. This will give us a
well needed link to the south, and leverage to access the
Cataraqui trail from Newburgh to Harrowsmith.
North Frontenac has also signed a trial 1 year agreement with
us which enables anyone with our TTN gold pass to ride the trail
system better known to everyone as the Ompah trails, which
formerly required everyone to have a North Frontenac Roads pass
as well.
The partnerships we've made and the work we've done has
effectively drove the final nail in the coffin of Haliburton and
the ATVOntario power pass, and indications are that they are
eager to come to the table to discuss partnership with us (TTN
Gold). You can continue to expect changes along the way as we
strive to continue being the largest and only trail organization
in Ontario.
We have new maps available with some exiting changes and lots of
additions. If you like, you can drop by and grab one anytime
during business hours.
See you out there...

FALL COLORS RIDE...
Hi Everyone - as fall approaches its time to pull out your
calendar to commit a few dates to enjoy the fall colours on your
ATV.
This will be the 4th year we've done the Fall Colour Ride and the
scenery gets better each year. As in past years there are 3
different rides over 3 days. Join us for one or join us for all
3!
This year we've promoted the use of trail passes, which helps
clubs and our ATV organizations fund better trails and lobby
governments to keep ATV riding areas open on our behalf. Having
passes has been warmly accepted those who ride with us and we are
pleased to say we've had 100% participation in permit purchases.
Day passes are $20, or annual passes $140 (one year from the date
of purchase), will be available at the beginning of each ride.
Day 1 - Friday, October 16, 2009 - OMPAH Technical Ride
We'll have an early start for the challenging Ompah technical
ride. Leaving from Boyers Chev parking lot in Napanee at 8am we
should be hitting the trails by 9:30am. This year we'll do the
trail in reverse which seems to be a tamer direction but would
still be rated as 4 out of 5, quite difficult. It is very
important that you have refined your slow-riding, momentum and
balance skills to attend this outing as we travel through the
Quinns on the east and along our favorite escarpment on the
northern edge of the ride. Total distance is 125km which means
extra fuel may be required for thirsty machines. This ride will
be limited to a maximum of 12 participants. We anticipate being
back at the trailers by 6pm. For those of you with Garmin GPS
units*, the tracks are attached in the document called OMPAH and
the co-ordinates for our departure in Ompah are N44 59.767 W76
53.226. If you wish to attend, please respond to me by e-mail for
this ride only.
Day 2 - Saturday, October 17, 2009 - Ganaraska Forest near Port
Hope
We'll be departing from the truck stop at Exit 538 (Loyalist
Wallbridge Road) at 9am. The drive to Ganaraska Forest will take
approximately 90 minutes allowing us to be trail ready at 11am.
Ganaraska is a public riding area, where horseback riders, hikers,
dirt bikers and ATVs share the trails. ATV trail permits cost $20
for adults and $10 for youths (yes, younger riders are welcome on
this ride). This ride is open to riders of all expertise levels.
There is a morning and an afternoon portion to this ride totalling
less than 100km. The views of Lake Ontario and some of the sand
climbs are really cool. We anticipate being back at the trailers
by 4:30 to head home. For those of you with Garmin GPS units*,
the tracks are attached in the document called GANARASKA and the
co-ordinates for our departure at the Forest Entrance on Cold
Springs Camp Rd. are N44 04.462 W78 30.253. (OFATV/EOTA permit not
required)
Day 3 - Sunday, October 18, 2009 - McLean Road north of Kingston
on Hwy 38 (Parham)
This is a shorter ride (but a good one) for those who need to
travel home after a day on the trails. We'll depart from the
Canadian Tire lot in Napanee at 9am, arriving at Hwy 38 and the
401 in Kingston at about 9:20am for those who wish to join us
there. We will likely be unloaded and ready for the trail by
10:15am and back to the trailers by 3:30pm. This ride will
provide us with some lovely scenery as well as some optional and
fun rock climbs. This ride is mid level in difficulty with a
rating of 2.5 to 3 out of 5 (optional climbs omitted) and a length
of about 50km. For those of you with Garmin GPS units*, the
tracks are attached in the document called Maclean and the
co-ordinates for our departure from the school parking lot in
Parham are N44 39.372 W76 43.399.

RIDE NOTICE! (Monday, Feb.
1st 2009) .... Thank you everyone who came out and participated in
the 1st Westport stint on Sunday. We had 15 or so riders. Starting
out we attempted to run the lakes and as predicted, the ice
conditions were horrible due to heavy slush pockets under the
snow. We decided to get off the ice and do our alternate plan of
South Frontenac back roads. Thanks Jeff for leading the way. The
back roads were surprisingly fun to ride and we had a couple of
bush trails along the route... One was not traveled and blocked by
a 7 foot snow bank, which was made short work of courtesy of Dave
and his new tracks. We had a few under dressed riders in our group
that were "needless to say" happy to arrive in Westport to warm up
with a coffee and a hot meal. All in all, it was a good run in
spite of having not doing the lakes. Hopefully, the 2nd ride on
the 15th will produce better lake conditions.... Please note:
Running the lakes is much much colder than running the trails. You
are more exposed on an ATV than you are on a snowmobile. Please
make sure you have full winter gear and apparel in layers. Getting
cold and wet can turn the most fun day you had into the worst
day...
The plans for the 15th are
the same. Scroll down.
SUNDAY FEBRUARY
1st. and SUNDAY FEBRUARY 15th. 2009 WESTPORT STINT
NOTICE! (friday,
Jan. 30th)... Ice conditions are not good due to heavy snow,
causing major slush pockets that are very hard to ride through. We
may have to take an alternate route. The ride is not cancelled.
We will be leaving from Jeff Ball's farm at approx. 10:00 am. Both
rides are full day runs with fuel and food in Westport. There is
no need for you to bring fuel besides your emergency fuel. The run
will be jumping from lake to lake. Ice conditions apply but they
should be excellent.
To get to Jeff's farm... Drive north from Kingston
on Montreal Street to Sunbury. Turn right at the flashing light on
Sunbury Rd. for approx. 2 kms. then turn left at Ida Hill Rd. at
the small church. Go down the hill maybe 1/2 km. then turn right.
Follow another 1/2 km. to the farm driveway on your left.
If you like to ride in the winter... This is an amazing run.
DRESS WARM!
As always... Participate at your own
risk. There will be a short discussion on the ride and safety
before we depart.
Thanks, Steve. 613-354-5202
